Discovering the Rich Culture and History of Seychelles
Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, boasts a rich history influenced by both French and British colonial rule. This blend of cultures is evident in the island’s traditions, cuisine, and languages. Today, Seychelles recognizes three official languages: Creole, English, and French, reflecting its diverse heritage. Visitors can easily use USD, EUR, and the local Seychellois Rupee for transactions, making it convenient for international travelers.
My Stay on Mahé Island, L’Escale Resort Marina & Spa
I spent nearly two weeks on Mahé Island, the largest and most developed of the Seychelles islands. My adventure began at the luxurious L’Escale Resort Marina & Spa. Nestled amidst a tropical garden teeming with passion flowers and frangipani, the resort features two stunning infinity pools and a spa offering a range of treatments, including a hamam. Although the resort doesn’t have a beach, the stunning tropical garden more than makes up for it, offering a unique and tranquil setting you won’t find elsewhere. L’Escale also boasts a private yacht port, adding to its charm.
From the moment I arrived, the warm and welcoming staff made me feel at home. The resort’s proximity to Eden Island and Victoria made it an ideal base for exploring the area. I highly recommend booking a day trip with Brandon from Mahé Cab Service via WhatsApp. He guided me to numerous picturesque spots, hidden gems, and even a fascinating lost place. Brandon’s car was well-maintained, he drove safely, was incredibly helpful, well-organized, punctual, attending to every detail meticulously and the day trip itinerary could be adjusted individually to suit my preferences. Thus, I highly recommend this service for anyone looking for a reliable and outstanding cab experience.
One of the highlights of my stay at L’Escale was the food. I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruits and coconut water available throughout the day. However, the standout dish was the chef’s curry, a culinary masterpiece bursting with unique spices, making it the best curry I’ve ever tasted. Victoria and Eden Island are perfect for souvenir shopping, and I made sure to pick up some Takamaka, the local rum.

A Serene Escape at Mango House Seychelles
For the second part of my trip, I stayed at Mango House Seychelles, a serene retreat located next to a small beach. The hotel is situated in a quieter area, requiring a taxi for day trips, but the tranquility and breathtaking views more than compensated for this. I started each day with a delicious breakfast, savoring Coconut French Toast and Moringa Oatmeal while enjoying the stunning scenery and sunset views.
Mango House is not just about the views; it also supports local artists Michael Adams and his daughter Alyssa Adams. I was delighted to receive pareos as a birthday gift, adorned with tropical prints inspired by their famous paintings. The spacious suite offered a spectacular view, and the staff made my birthday unforgettable by singing for me, adding a personal touch to my stay.
Both hotels offered unique experiences, from L’Escale’s vibrant, luxurious atmosphere to Mango House’s serene, artistic environment. My time on Mahé Island was a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion, making it a trip to remember.
